(WROC) \u2014 A program at the University of Rochester has been named a finalist in a national innovation competition.<\/p>\n<p>STELLAR, which stands for \u201cScience, Technology, and Engineering of Laser and Laser Applications Research,\u201d aims to accelerate laser discovery, technology, education, and manufacturing in the Finger Lakes region.<\/p>\n<p>The program was named a finalist in the \u201cInnovation Engines\u201d competition, created by Senator Chuck Schumer\u2019s CHIPS &amp; Science Law. The finalists in the competition are eligible for $15 million in federal funding and up to $160 million total over the life of the program.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Rochester has had recent developments with lasers. Last year, the University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochesterfirst.com\/why-roc\/why-roc-university-of-rochesters-laser-lab-expansion\/\">Lab for Laser Energetics underwent an expansion.<\/a>\u00a0The purpose of that facility is to study nuclear fusion and harvest energy from it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>via Rochester First \/\/ George Gandy<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ROCHESTER, N.Y.
